The Maine Turnpike does not receive any state, federal or local tax dollars. Instead, it is funded entirely by tolls along with revenue from rental fees from vendors at Turnpike service plazas.
These toll and rental revenues enable the Maine Turnpike Authority to plan and execute an essential ongoing program of highway and bridge maintenance, and to meet its obligation to maintain a safe and efficient highway.
Based on recommendations of a Citizens Advisory Committee on Toll Equity, the Board of Directors approved a new toll structure concurrent with the toll rate adjustments implemented February 1, 2009. The new toll structure included adjustments to the increased toll rates to benefit Maine people who use the Turnpike regularly and who are E-ZPass customers versus cash-paying customers who tend to be less frequent users of the Turnpike.
The toll chart to the right illustrates the cash toll structure for Class 1 Vehicles (passenger cars, pickup trucks, vans and motorcycles) and shows the entrance and exit tolls for the Maine Turnpike as well as the transit tolls at the York, New Gloucester and West Gardiner toll plazas.
Below are helpful toll charts for savings comparisons, cash tolls and E-ZPass tolls for all classes of vehicles, as well as information on the Commuter Plan.
